Stayed in Perkasa Hotel for a night with a quarter of the usual holiday gang + Apple.
Few things about Perkasa Hotel:
1. Its OKOK cold up there, depending on if it rains.
2. There is WiFi at the lobby, which is a big plus if you don't have 3G
3. You can't run on the suspended bridge to scare your sister or the security guard will blow his little whistle and point violently at you/me.
We went for a nice little picnic at national park, just stopped at one of the pondoks and set up our lunch.
Tamparulli Mee, KFC, Macaroons Chacarron
Nice and cool, but be warned, your sister and/or mother may or may not put giant ass crickets on you.
OH YEA, I almost forgot that we went to DESA, realized we could not milk the cows ourselves, so we decided to take photos there because the place looked like New Zealand.
Of course I make this assumption based on the photos featured on Fern Leaf containers.
Candid!
Proof that I am taller than Elaine
I should explain that these are the houses we would come to stay in as kids,
but now Sutera privatized these houses,
jacked up the prices 3 fold,
and it was absolutely DESERTED when these photos were taken.
Price * 3 * 0 Tenants = Money?
Great business plan, money bags.
Anyways, we found this new Orchid place on the way down.
and mum just went balistic.
But could you blame her?
It was literally a sea of Orchids, many in full bloom
The boss here is pretty funny too. Just don't touch the flowers, or he will nag you into the ground.
Its RM50 Per Orchid but the ones to the left of my mum cost more.
We ended up having to hold 6 orchids for an hour or so on the way down.
But now we have really nice flowers in the house for Chinese New Year!
To be honest I was abit skeptical going into Universal Studios for a couple of reasons.
1. Hong Kong Disneyland was really small when I went there, so I assumed the same.
2. The weather forecast for Singapore throughout the week showed thunder storms everyday
But that all changed when we got there!
The staff at USS were friendly, well mannered, and really welcoming.
In a busy metropolitan where pretty much no one is smiling on the way home when you ride the MRT, its a breath of fresh air.
[I asked one of the cleaning crew for directions to a water fountain, and he was extremely polite, well mannered not to mention precise with the directions - I was very impressed]
KUNGFU PANDA!
The little kids were going NUTS when they saw kungfu panda
We chose a very specific day to go to USS.
It was 2 days BEFORE all the schools in Singapore had their year end break
A weekday
This paid off GREATLY,
We did not have to line up for ANY rides, it was just a matter of how fast you could run through the railings they had up to get to the actual ride.
This also helps because at USS you get 30mins free locker time (lockers are placed at the side of each big ride), after that its $2 for each 20 minutes or something. So without the lines, you don't have to worry about being charged for waiting in line too long.
We got 20% off on ticket prices, and 10SGD in retail vouchers which I'm just NOW realizing we did not collect! APPLE!!!!!
They had alot of very good performances going on throughout the day
This one reminded me so much of "Uptown girl" by Westlife
Moving on to gut busters
The Battlestar Galactica ride they have is the biggest roller coaster ride in USS.
Its made up of 2 sections, Human(red rails)[Seated] and Cylon(blue rails)[Feet dangling].
Naturally the Cylon one was way more awesome.
Apple being a smartypants went online and RESEARCHED this ride before hand where she found some blogger saying that he sprained his neck on the Cylon one and that it was super scary. Thanks alot you fat headed wimpy man child.
I had to persuade Apple for 5 hours to get her to ride the Cylon section!
The upside down screaming people didn't help with the decision!
And the end result:
SAP SAP SUI BA CMON -Shishkabobbed
The lesson here is obviously not to believe everything you read in blogs.
There is a real chance that the blogger is just plain retarded.
I'm not a blogger, so you can trust me. :D
Oh! We met Woody Woodpecker!
ha ha ha hah hah!
ha ha ha hah hah!
HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH!!
This restaurant in particular is called KT's Grill, we went there because Apple's old boss recommended it.
I have to say, the way they made the interior feel was pretty amazing.
I felt like I was in a fancy American establishment way back when Tommy guns went hand in hand with suits and suspenders.
The food prices there is what you would expect to get from a amusement park.
This Double Cheeseburger was around SGD20
The onion ring you see at the top layer is the secret to this burger.
When you bite down and you feel that crunch, thats what made it special.
Brick by boring brick
-Geddit?
Waterworld.
Pretty good show! I was looking forward to this because its such a classic.
It was pretty good!
They did a pre-show mini-show to entertain us, and when the action started there were alot of gunshots and fireworks!
Somehow we sat in the only SOAK ZONE that didn't get soaked.
Brought raincoats all the way from KK for nothing :(
I can't stress this enough, the quality and the atmosphere of USS was amazing.
I couldn't have hoped for more, well worth a visit.
A photo of me and apple in front of the Merlion.
To be honest I was expecting it to be alot bigger. thats what she said!
The guy that took this picture for us was using a tripod for his own picture.
Trying to capture a picture of himself "drinking" the Merlion's spit.
Most of you who have played maple will recognise this name, Boat Quay.
The difference in real life is probably that you don't teleport here after you beatCaptain Latanica
And the winner for [Cutest Sign/Best Shop Name] for the Singapore trip goes to "Bar Bar Black Sheep"
dung dung dung qiang
Me eating a Durian ice cream sandwich.
They have these little stalls all around selling these in different flavours for $1 each.
Quite good!
The blue roofed tents you see there, thats where we had our lunch!
Pretty good stuff, dim sum and really good tofu.
poooooot~OLIVIA
Oh cmon... That wasn't in bad taste! Its funny!
Anyways, summary!
Its just one of those places you gotta go to so that when people ask you, have you seen the Merlion?
You can go, "meh, smaller than expected fish lion shooting out water from its mouth no biggie."
All of the photos in this post will be in black & white. cz i can
We went up to Rasa Ria to have some fun.
It was Josh, Mich, Lex, Ple and Me in a D-max blasting banana songs all the way.
We basically swam ourselves silly and got harassed by sand flies all day long.
I'm still scratching the sand fly bites as I'm typing this.
We brought a watercooler to store... fruits!
I'm not kidding, Lex brought half a watermelon.
We loaded the cooler up at the Ice dispenser and then added water from the shower to keep our stuff cool.
I liked these fruits the best
Josh was force feeding us the whole trip. Trying to get me to have a bigger belly, maybe a beer belly on my existing belly.
Samurai D
Chop your D
Alex wore this all around Tuaran.
The ribbon looks really good doesn't it?
I TIED IT. OF COURSE IT LOOKS GOOD.
I can't think of any Apple drinking Mango jokes at the moment.
I'll replace this when I think of a good one.
This photo was taken to show the skin tone of our backs after a whole day of swimming under the hot sun.
Josh being the darkest, Alex being the red-est.
But now it just shows me being the fattest. sigh
Alex and Josh had their birthdays so we decided to throw them a surprise!
We "sneaked off" from the pool and went into a freezing cafe where we spent 20 minutes trying to convince the girl at the counter to send the cakes to our room at 10:30PM.
We stated very clearly that it was a surprise party and that the friends we want to surprise would be in the room.
It was pretty much a success, except that they didn't put candles on the cake.
Even after we gave them matches and candles, and told them to light it up before they came knocking, they.. failed to do so..
Doesn't matter, we still got them.
[I had to light the candles in the bathroom before taking the cake out]
Also, [boobs]
They were pretty happy
Fun times :D
We revisited the coconut pudding stall we went to with Dunstan a couple months back.
This time we stayed away from the Lokan. Really good call.
We didn't get to take ugly pictures of Michelle this time around. I regret this, very much.
Anyways, some coloured photos taken with iPhones!
The Bed
We took this with the Mac's at the Rasa Ria Cyber Cafe
SNSD's unofficial bouncer
The best blowers in town!
Happy birthday guys, have a great year ahead! Don't grow up too much okay?
Trying to get to Marina Bay Sands for the light show was like swimming in a pond with blindfolds on while asking ducks if there is food on the shore.
Horrible picture of us, we were just really tired.
We were walking under a tiny umbrella with the rain just pouring away at us.
The winds would have torn the umbrella right off if we didn't hide out in a nearby shopping mall until the storm settled.
The Marina Bay Sands Casino is on the left and the Art Science Museum is on the right. I initially thought it was modeled after two hands or bananas, possibly but less likely, a flower. Then I stopped being a dumbass and read the brochure.
And if you were wondering.. the unique design of the Art Science Museum was inspired by the lotus flower.
You're most welcome.
Since it was raining the whole day, we were really afraid that they would not have the lightshow.
The info we got from their website said "Show at 8:00PM Weather permitting"
And going to several info counters, the people there told us it wouldn't be on if the rain doesn't let up.
Mind you this was at 7:30PM
Then at 7:50PM, the rain stopped.
We fashioned some seats out of plastic bags and waited to see if the show would begin..
AND IT DID!
Apple was expecting fireworks.
I was skeptical that they would be able to throw fireworks in your face 2 times a day, 7 days a week.
Ultimately we were both half right.
I give you... FIRE!
*Futuristic robot sounds*
They were telling a story through lights, water, and fire all in perfect unison with the specially composed music.
It was really quite good!
We were super happy to be able to catch it.
Plus we did get pretty good standing-seats to it!
A tip to anyone visiting, walk all the way to the front of the casino to experience the show, because this way you will quite literally be in the middle of it.
Don't settle for watching from afar.
Trust me, its worth the extra walk!
By the end of it. We were exhausted, muddy, cranky and somehow still pretty happy.
We took this on the way back while on the MRT.
My slippers smelled like wet dog after that, and they continued to smell like that for a whole week, sunshine did not help.
# Since this photo, I have moved on, on to another pair of slippers.
Well worth a visit even if you just want to look at the interesting buildings there.
[Didn't use a tripod for any of these shots]
# Side note, we went into the Art Science Museum for abit to check it out.
I must say that the staff behind the counter at the Art Science Museum were REALLY polite, not to mention helpful.
We wanted to go for the Titanic exhibition but they were closing in an hour.
All in all, ALOT of walking to get there, but well worth it.
